Meticulously grown in the stunning Parkburn region of Central Otago. With a lower alcohol of 10%, this exquisite medium-sweet Riesling pays homage to the renowned Spätlese wines of Germany, while showcasing the unique terroir of our cherished Parkburn Vineyard.
Prepare your senses for a harmonious symphony of flavours as the richness of balanced sweetness and the gentle embrace of fine acidity dance upon your palate. Immaculately crafted, this Riesling strikes the perfect equilibrium, showcasing a seamless fusion of indulgent sweetness and crisp vibrancy.
Apricots and mandarin juice dominate the nose of this wine in its youth, and the palate is filled with lively notes of tangerine and lime. The immaculately balanced rich sweetness and fine acidity are brought to completion by a very long and cleansing finish.
Easily enjoyed as an aperitif, or with long lunches, cheese, white meat or delicate seafood dishes, this wine will continue to evolve over the next decade.
Reviews & Accolades
92 / 100 - David Walker Bell, Wine Folio - "Taking inspiration from ‘Spätlese’ expressions of Riesling of Germany which are lighter in alcohol, and offer an off-dry sweetness balanced with a racy acidity. Grown in the Parkburn Vineyard, Central Otago, this years’ version comes in at 10% alcohol and 45 grams of residual sugar per litre. A very pale lime-straw colour in the glass. Wonderfully varietal on the nose – the perfume of lime, tangerine, creamy honey, apricot and jasmine also has a frisson of white pepper. A playful counterpoint between the sweetness and electric acidity forms the core of the palate. The harmony is both seamless and jazzy, creating the vibrancy that is the framework on which the other elements hang. A zesty, lingering finish."
17.5/20 - Joelle Thomson - "Bold, bright and beautiful Riesling is the great unsung white wine of Central Otago, always a high achiever but often in the shadow of other high achievers, such as Pinot Noir. It is to the credit of the Rockburn winemaking team that it remains a high priority for Rockburn. Winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis brings out the best of this beautiful variety in this wine, highlighting flavours of candied mandarin peel and layers of ginger zest, a touch of lime and ripe white peach flesh flavours, all bringing complexity. Fermentation was in stainless steel to preserve fruit aromatic appeal and freshness which shine through in its cool climate origins".
