The International Wine Challenge (IWC) has unveiled its 2026 medal and Trophy winners, reinforcing New Zealand’s position as a global leader in cool-climate winemaking—with standout success in both Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
Among the country’s top performers, Rockburn Crimson Peak Pinot Noir 2024 delivered an exceptional result, awarded 96 points/Gold Medal and a coveted IWC Trophy, placing it firmly among the world’s elite wines. This recognition positions Crimson Peak alongside some of the most decorated wines in this year’s competition and highlights Central Otago’s continued rise on the global stage.
The IWC noted that New Zealand wines continue to combine technical precision with strong commercial appeal, judged by a panel that includes leading UK buyers, sommeliers, and hospitality professionals. Crimson Peak exemplifies this balance, offering both structure and immediate drinkability.
IWC judges praised the wine, noting:
“Attractive lifted aromas of strawberry, raspberry, summer pudding, ripe plum compote, and tantalising spice. In fact, amazing spice!”
This latest success builds on a remarkable run for Crimson Peak. Earlier recognition includes a 95-point review from Dave Brookes (James Halliday’s Wine Companion), who described it as:
“A cracking pinot noir… juicy raspberry fruit leading the charge… silky tannins… a real sense of drinking joy. It’s delicious.”
It also follows a standout performance at the 2025 New Zealand International Wine Show, where the wine achieved 98 points and Double Gold, placing it among just six Pinot Noirs to reach that level of excellence.
For Rockburn, the success of Crimson Peak Pinot Noir 2024 is a clear expression of that individuality—capturing the vibrancy, purity, and layered spice that define Central Otago Pinot Noir at its best.
